Audio Visual Installations: Everything You Need to Know
“AV” stands for Audio Visual, a term that encompasses all aspects of sound and visual technology used in various installation settings. From amplifying sound to displaying images or video, AV systems are crucial for creating dynamic, engaging environments in a wide range of spaces.
While the need for audio and visual setups is most commonly associated with sectors like education, religious institutions, and entertainment venues such as theatres, the applications of AV technology are much broader.
In recent years, industries like leisure centers and healthcare facilities have seen a surge in the use of AV systems. For example, in leisure centers, music plays a significant role in creating an energetic and inviting atmosphere, while visual elements such as screens or projections enhance customer engagement, whether through advertising, entertainment, or sports broadcasts. Similarly, in medical centers, AV systems can be used for patient information displays, staff communication, and entertainment in waiting areas.
Audio Visual installations are essential in both commercial and non-commercial environments, serving a dual purpose: setting the mood and providing vital information. Whether it’s for enhancing customer experience, delivering educational content, or broadcasting live events, AV technology is an integral part of creating impactful, functional spaces.
At Pixel 8 Productions, we specialise in custom AV installations tailored to meet the unique needs of any sector, ensuring that your space is equipped with the right technology to enhance both the atmosphere and functionality of your environment.

An AV installation typically includes speakers to deliver high-quality sound, lighting to set the atmosphere, and TVs or projectors with screens to display entertainment or important information. Depending on your needs, an installation can include some or all of these elements. For example, a simple setup might involve just a few speakers and a TV for displaying information in a doctor’s office, while a larger-scale installation, like one in a nightclub, may require multiple speakers, video screens, and intricate lighting to create a truly immersive experience for guests.
This is a common question, and it’s one of the reasons why we always aim to arrange an on-site meeting whenever possible. During this visit, we assess factors such as cable routing, speaker placement, and ensuring there’s enough space in areas like office cupboards to accommodate control equipment, including the equipment rack.
When providing a quote for an installation, we always specify an estimated timeframe for completion. However, occasionally, unforeseen circumstances—such as co-ordinating with other contractors sharing the same workspace—can cause delays and extend the installation time. These situations are rare, but they may occasionally affect the overall schedule.
If we handle the installation, we ensure that the job isn’t considered complete until we walk you through every aspect of the system. We’ll make sure you fully understand how it works and how to maximise its features. Our job isn’t finished until you’re confident in using the system.
If the installation wasn’t done by us, we’ll evaluate the existing setup during our site visit. While we typically prefer to manage the entire installation from start to finish, we’ll assess whether any aspects of the original work are acceptable. If any issues are identified, we’ll provide recommendations and advice during the evaluation.
In many cases, we can reuse some of your current gear or reposition it within the setup to improve performance. If we can recycle your equipment, we will—this not only helps reduce costs but also benefits the overall setup. For instance, by saving money on equipment replacements, you might decide to invest in a new digital mixer to enhance your system.
All our stock comes with a full manufacturer’s warranty for your peace of mind. We’re approved UK stockists for all the top brands we offer.

The cost of an AV installation varies depending on the project. We always visit each venue—whether it’s a small café or a large theatre—to ensure we recommend the right products for your needs. Until we assess the site, it’s impossible to determine exactly what’s required or how much equipment is necessary. For example, does the venue need sub-bass in addition to wall speakers? This will depend on the desired music style and atmosphere. Similarly, does a church require TVs, a projector, or a screen? Factors like the building’s layout or whether it’s a listed structure will also influence our recommendations. Ultimately, our site visit helps us tailor the installation to your specific needs.
While it’s tempting to opt for cheaper options, we never recommend using low-quality components for installations. Considering the long-term use and lifespan of AV equipment, as well as the potential costs of repairs and replacements, it’s not cost-effective to go for the cheapest options. Instead, we focus on mid-range products that offer a great balance of quality and value—these make up about 80% of our installations. Our goal is to provide equipment that delivers excellent performance while staying within your budget.
While some installation tasks, like rewiring, may be handled by a third party (such as an electrician you know), we always recommend professional installation for the best results. To accommodate different needs, our services are divided into three options.
We prefer to handle the entire installation ourselves, ensuring that any challenges that arise are addressed by our experienced team. Alternatively, we offer a design, supply, and commission service, where we provide the equipment and guidance, but you manage the installation with your own skilled personnel. Lastly, you can order equipment directly from us.
Whichever option you choose, we’re here to offer expert advice and support throughout the process.
The brands we recommend for your AV installation are typically based on your allocated budget. During our initial site visit, we’ll discuss options and assess which products are the best fit for your needs. You might be surprised to find that some areas don’t require as much investment as others. For instance, ceiling speakers or outdoor speakers generally don’t need to be as powerful or high-quality as those in the main, more dynamic areas of a pub or restaurant.
For budget-friendly options, brands like Adastra, Clever Acoustics, and Pulse offer excellent value without compromising on performance. Most of the equipment we use falls within the mid-range price bracket, featuring trusted names like Apart Audio, RCF, LD Systems, JBL, Crown Amplification, and Yamaha. For premium installations, we also offer high-end brands such as Electrovoice, Inspired Audio, and Logic System.
Pricing can vary, but we’re confident that when comparing like-for-like products, our service is highly competitive, supported by over 15 years of experience in the AV and lighting industry. When reviewing quotes, it’s important to ensure you have all the relevant details. For instance, check the quality of the cables and verify that the radio microphones operate on a legal frequency, among other specifications.
While the majority of our installations are within a 50 to 75-mile radius of our Long Eaton warehouse, we regularly undertake projects further afield. This includes locations such as holiday parks and venues along the East Coast, where we have established long-term relationships with several clients who rely on our services before or at the end of their summer season.
We’re always open to considering installations across the UK, as long as it’s a practical and feasible option for both parties. No matter the distance, we prioritise delivering high-quality service and ensuring the installation meets your specific needs, wherever you are located.
At Pixel 8 Productions, we take immense pride in our after-sales service and the support we offer long after the installation is complete. One of the main reasons we focus on installations within a 50–75 mile radius of our Long Eaton warehouse is to ensure that we can provide fast, responsive assistance whenever it’s needed. Being close to our clients allows us to offer an efficient support package and deal with any issues quickly, minimising downtime and frustration.
The products we install come with a manufacturer’s return-to-base warranty, but we understand that this can be less than ideal, especially when equipment is mounted high or in difficult-to-access places. For example, if a speaker installed on the wall malfunctions, sending it back for repairs can be challenging. In these situations, we go above and beyond to co-ordinate a solution that works for you, whether it’s sending out a technician to resolve the issue on-site, arranging for a replacement, or handling the logistics for repairs.
We’ll always ensure that any issues are addressed promptly and effectively, and we’re committed to offering flexible solutions that fit your needs. Whether you need troubleshooting, technical support, or a replacement part, our team is here to ensure that your AV system operates smoothly, keeping your venue or event running without interruption.
