"Event production" covers everything technical that makes your event happen: the stage, sound, lighting, screens, power and the crew who build and run it. Here's how a production budget comes together.
The building blocks
- Staging: size, height, steps and any roof or truss frame
- Sound: PA, mics, mixing and an engineer
- Lighting: room lighting, stage lighting and an operator
- Screens: an LED wall or projection for slides, video and live cameras
- Power: distribution from the venue supply or a generator
- Crew: build, show and de-rig, plus a show caller for complex events
What pushes the cost up
- Bigger rooms and audiences, or outdoor sites
- Rigging from the ceiling or building truss structures
- Multiple days, or tight get-in and get-out windows
- Live streaming, multiple cameras and graphics
Where to spend for the most impact
If the budget is tight, prioritise sound (if people can't hear, nothing else matters), then a screen everyone can see, then lighting. Booking everything from one in-house team also saves money and stops things falling between suppliers.
